Beach Clean-Up Lead Organizer & Volunteer

Facilitate experiential learning for the Department of Communication and Earl Warren College Writing Program by organizing student-centered coastal clean-ups every other month throughout San Diego County while serving as volunteer liaison for local nonprofit environmental organizations.

Citizen Scientist: University of Southern California Urban Tides
January 2016 –January 2017
Photographed tidal lines and the impact of rising sea levels at San Onofre State Beach/Park. Submitted images to the Urban Tides photographic database for scientists who calibrate models that project flooding and erosion due to future sea level rise.

Volunteer: Ocean View Growing Grounds Garden
January 2016 – August 2016 
Helped conceptualize workshops that addressed environmental and public health issues, including stormwater mitigation, advances in bioswale technology, plant-tissue testing and the impact of food deserts on low-income communities.

Volunteer: Scripps Institution of Oceanography
‘Pink Tide Experiment’: October 2015
Helped assemble tubes to release pink dye into the ocean and monitored beach equipment used to track flow of pink dye during south-southwest swells.

Citizen Scientist: ‘Marine Protected Area Watch’ Program
July 2014 – October 2014
Documented and recorded beach-use activities weekly for WildCoast’s citizen-science data collection program and educated public about Marine Protected Areas to ensure long-term success of the county’s MPA network.
